"The Last Mile Home" - Original oil painting by renowned elephant artist Dawie Fourie, measures 24"x36". This beautiful piece is a study of "Tim", Amboseli's famous tusker who died of natural causes in the middle of the night earlier this year. Tim's right tusk weighed an amazing 165 lbs and the left just under 160 lbs - the biggest tusks to come out of Africa since the early 1970s! The artist so aptly named the piece from a vexing question we all have wondered a time or two, 'what happens in those final moments before we die?' For Tim, we will never know for sure, but from the markings on the ground surrounding his body, it was clear that his Askaris attempted to assist him in getting back on his feet. There were signs of a whole lot of milling around and obvious attempts to lift him up to no avail. They left the scene early the next morning before park rangers discovered his remains. Painting will be shipped to winner in professionally packaged tube with stretchers at approx. $200+. Painting will need to be gallery wrapped on stretchers by local framer at approx. $140+/- depending on size. DALLAS SAFARI CLUB THANKS DAWIE FOURIE ARTS FOR THIS 100% DONATION.
